America’s Next Top Model fans were understandably puzzled when the show’s creator, Tyra Banks got rid of the long-time judges and co-hosts, Nigel Barker, Miss J. Alexander, and Jay Manuel. Tyra is seeking new ways to get the show’s ratings back up, after viewers have started to get bored with the same old format.
The three men seemed to have been there from the beginning. One of the former judges who doesn’t seem to be taking too big of a fall from the ousting is Nigel Barker, the photographer and author of “Nigel Barker’s Beauty Equation.” He’ll be joining the team for Oxygen’s new show, “The Face,” another inside look inside the world of modeling.
He’s joining the Naomi Campbell, and supermodels Karolina Kurkova, Coco Rocha who will serve as coaches for the models. Barker, will serve as the show’s host. We have to wonder if Campbell’s temper will present itself on the show. She is known for being difficult to work with and has been sued by a former assistant for throwing her phone at her.
“The Face” is scheduled to air in 2013 and casting for the aspiring models is currently underway. The winner will earn a contract with some yet-to-be-disclosed brand. It sounds like they are working to compete with Tyra’s show, as the market for reality shows like this one has proven to be quite lucrative for television networks and advertisers.
Oxygen describes the show as “a new reality competition series that features aspiring female models in their quest to win the opportunity of becoming ‘the face’ for a well-known brand.”
The supermodel coaches will scout and choose their teams from aspiring young models nationwide before guiding them through “assignments”and eliminating them until one model wins the coveted contract.
