Republicans in Muncie, Indiana, created a stir when they placed a punching bag depicting President Obama as a boxer with a black eye outside of their tent at a local fair. It was displayed at various times Monday through Wednesday at the fair in Muncie, about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Delaware County GOP spokesman Tom Bennington says he thinks the bag was placed outside the tent by party leaders. Bennington says the bag was “meant in fun” to portray the Republicans’ hope to defeat President Obama this election year; however, he admitted he found the punching bag to be “mildly offensive” because of how it portrayed the military’s commander in chief.
The punching bag was removed after fair visitors- including at least one Republican- complained about it.
