Just a few days eralier, the country’s constitution court allowed ousted and jailed former President Hosni Mubarak’s last prime minister, Ahmed Shafiq, to remain in the race.

According to the NY Times, the results of the first round of the presidential election show Mr. Morsi in the lead.
